Celtic loanee fired Hibs past Inverness into the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
Stokes, 27, is on loan from Celtic, after falling out of favour with the Scottish champions in the first half of the season.
He was hoping to use the loan to rescue his bid to reach Ireland's Euro 2016 squad, but has had a tough time since joining.
The 27-year-old scored two goals in his first two matches, but the last of these had come on February 2, disappointing in recent matches, including the Scottish League Cup final defeat to Ross County.
On the eve of the game a Scottish Sun editorial asked if signing Stokes had 'backfired spectacularly' for Hibs, having lost the final and fallen further behind leaders Rangers in the Scottish Championship.
Stokes' double was then immaculately timed, scoring both goals in the first half to give Hibernian a 2-0 lead, before Inverness pulled one back, with the game ending 2-1.
The striker appears to have kept supporters onside as a result of his goals. Here is a look at the reaction to his performance...
