Aston Villa fans react almost unanimously on Twitter to Tom Fox's departure

CEO Tom Fox has left Aston Villa today.

Aston Villa confirmed on their official website earlier today that Tom Fox has stepped down as the club's chief executive with immediate effect.

Fox spent five years as Arsenal's chief commercial officer between 2009 and 2014, before moving on to Aston Villa ahead of the 2014/15 season.

The American executive has come in for great criticism during his time at Villa Park, and many fans blame him for Villa's imminent relegation to the Championship.

After the departure of sporting director Hendrik Almstadt earlier this week, Fox has now followed him out of Villa Park by tendering his resignation earlier today.

Since Fox's departure was confirmed, Aston Villa fans have been reacting on Twitter, with supporters virtually unanimous in their celebration of his exit.

Fans believe that Fox and Almstadt leaving the club will help Villa move forward, as he, Almstadt and director of recruitment Paddy Reilly all oversaw last summer's terrible transfer window, which ultimately left the Villa squad bereft of quality.

Supporters called Fox's spell at Villa Park 'a disaster', but acknowledged his exit has come too late for Villa to save their season, as they sit nine points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Premier League table, and are hurtling towards relegation.
