Indeed, the 26-year-old midfielder has been a 'disgrace' in a Newcastle shirt this season, according to many fans, and his continued selection by Didier Deschamps has been a source of bewilderment on Tyneside.
A little like Roy Hodgson, the France boss appears to have his favourites - players who will be picked regardless of form.
England have the likes of James Milner, Theo Walcott and more. France, it appears, have Sissoko.
Some of the Magpies faithful are doubly concerned, meanwhile, that the 26-year-old no longer has an incentive to try hard against Sunderland.
If Sissoko's mediocrity is rewarded, why should he perform any better?
