Nottingham Forest fans react on Twitter to Federico Macheda's signing and debut

Nottingham Forest have snapped up Federico Macheda on loan from Cardiff City.

Nottingham Forest today confirmed on their official website that they have snapped up striker Federico Macheda on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season.

Macheda, 24, is still best known for his dramatic last-minute winning goal for Manchester United against Aston Villa in 2009, but his career hasn't continued on the same trajectory.

Loan spells with Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers, Stuttgart, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City failed to generate much success for the Italian centre forward, before signing a permanent deal with Cardiff City in the summer of 2014.

Eight goals last season for Cardiff was a decent return, but he has been frozen out by Russell Slade this season, playing just eight games and scoring no goals in a quiet campaign.

Now, Macheda has joined Forest on loan until the end of the season, handing interim boss Paul Williams another option in attack for their upcoming games.

In fact, Macheda started for Forest in the 1-1 draw away at Hull City, and he played 58 minutes at the KC Stadium before being replaced by Oliver Burke.

Since the deal was announced, Forest fans have been reacting on Twitter, with many keen to see Macheda in action, possibly alongside striker Britt Assombalonga, who is nearing a return from injury.

Others aren't quite so convinced about the move considering his quiet season with Cardiff, whilst supporters also reacted to his debut, with some suggestions that he looked rusty and youngster Tyler Walker should have played instead, with others saying he looked promising ahead of this weekend's game against Derby County.
