One of Slaven Bilic's coaches opens up on why the Frenchman has impressed so much.
West Ham United first-team coach Julian Dicks has suggested to the club's official website that Dimitri Payet has proved a roaring success in the Premier League because he has the steel to match his silk.
The 28-year-old playmaker has arguably been West Ham's Player of the Season following a glittering maiden term in England which has resulted in 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
Indeed, the Frenchman will surely rival the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy for PFA Player of the Year at the end of the season, having already scooped the equivalent for London-based players.
In his role as coach, Dicks has the luxury of watching Payet on the training ground day in day out, and the former Hammers defender unequivocally states that an unrelenting work ethic plays a major role in his success.
“For all the ability that Dimitri has got, he works hard for the team as well which for me makes him stand out even more," he told West Ham United's official website.
“Apart from his ability his work-rate is really good as well and hopefully he can keep producing this form. He is a fantastic player, but is a good lad as well and hopefully it can continue.”
Payet, who joined from Marseille last summer, enhanced his credentials further with a stunning 30-yard free kick to beat Manchester United's stellar David de Gea in Sunday's 1-1 FA Cup quarter-final draw at Old Trafford.
