Steve Evans admits U-turn regarding Leeds winger Jordan Botaka

The Leeds United player has proved his manager wrong on the training field.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has been speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about summer signing Jordan Botaka, admitting that he may have been hasty in his initial assessment of the winger.

Back in January the Whites boss told the Yorkshire Post that Botaka had not shown enough to suggest he should be on the pitch – a damning indictment for a player getting used to a new country and a new league – but just two months on it seems Evans has backtracked somewhat.

In recent comments published by the YEP, the Leeds manager said, “We’ve looked at Jordan, who I was critical of before, and he’s suddenly producing performances on the training ground.

“They’re making me say ‘We have a player here’.”

It is exciting to think the 22-year-old has taken his manager’s comments on board and seemingly used them as a catalyst for better performances behind the scenes.

The trick now is to replicate that on a match-day and it will be interesting to see if Evans gives Botaka chances in the weeks ahead.

Leeds are in great form right now and Evans will not want to change that, but he will know he needs to reward the players who perform in training or risk seeing them tail off.
