West Ham are having a fabulous season at the moment and are in the running for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Collymore believes that if the Hammers end up in the Champions League places, then they could nick players wanted by their more illustrious London rivals in the summer transfer window.
“The accelerated progress the Hammers could make in season ticket take ups, players signing on the dotted line and an announcement that its not all West and North London on the London football map for me could be huge,” the former Nottingham Forest striker wrote on Boylesports.com.
“So, the concentration on the Cup makes sense, but don’t be fooled, Fergie, in a horse racing dinner setting when making his “West Ham for 4th” prediction is no mug punter.
“He knows the course, the distance and a Top 4 Cup win could easily mean nicking players out of Chelsea, Spurs and even Arsenal’s clutches.
"Players are fickle, they know where to follow the money and the glory, and West Ham could well be in for a very happy 2016/17 indeed.”
Finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League is certainly going to make West Ham an attractive club.
However, it is unlikely that world-class players would snub an offer from Arsenal or Chelsea to join the Hammers.
Arsenal and Chelsea are two of the biggest clubs in the world, and they will retain the power of attracting top players even without Champions League football - at least for a season or two.
West Ham will certainly be able to sign quality players if they get into the Champions League, but perhaps not someone who is wanted by Arsenal or Chelsea.
