The Magpies travelled to the Kingpower Stadium on Monday looking to secure a win in their first game under new manager Rafa Benitez.
The Spaniard was confirmed as Steve McClaren’s replacement on Friday, after the former Derby County boss was sacked on the same day.
His side could not conjure up a win in his first game though, losing 1-0 courtesy of an overhead kick from striker Shinji Okazaki.
Rather than looking at yet more negatives however, Barton tweeted positively following the game, and was joined by former Magpies striker Andy Cole with those sentiments.
Leicester get the job done. Signs of improvement for Newcastle. Biggest Tyne Wear Derby in a long time next weekend. Must win.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 14, 2016

Benitez will now be hoping that his side can start winning quickly as they fight to avoid relegation again this season.
They are now one point from safety with just 9 games of the season remaining, with rivals Sunderland sitting above them in 17th place.
The two sides meet this weekend in the derby, in a game that has now taken on added significance given the impact it will have on the relegation race this season.
And Benitez will be keen to secure his first victory as boss in order to kick-start their escape this year.
