The Athletico Madrid manager is top of their shortlist for two reasons.
There is widespread speculation about the Gunners’ long serving manager following a poor run of form in recent months.
His side have won just once in their last seven games in the Premier League and FA Cup, a run that has seen them eliminated from the cup and fall away in the title race.
That has riled some sections of the Arsenal fan base, who believe their side should be clear title favourites given their rivals have fallen away this year.
And it seems that should they seek to replace Wenger at some point, the club’s hierarchy favour a move for Atletico Madrid manager Simeone, according to AS.
First and foremost they are impressed with his work in Spain and believe he could help return the side as competitors among Europe’s elite.
That is certainly something he has done at Atletico Madrid, with them having been big contenders at home and in Europe in recent years.
Secondly, the Gunners believe that securing Simeone could be key to them also procuring one of his star men, youngster Saul Niguez, who they are keen to sign in the summer.
Whether though, they could tempt Simeone is as yet unknown, with him having been fiercely to Atletico amid speculation over his own future in the past.
