Carlos Carvalhal has insisted that he is not thinking about Sheffield Wednesday's chances of being promoted to the Premier League, and is instead simply concentrating on their next game, the Sheffield Star reports.
The Owls are currently sixth in the Championship. And with nine games to go, the Portuguese would be forgiven for starting to think about what it will take for Wednesday to get over the line and secure a play-off spot.
However, Carvalhal has claimed that his focus is simply on the club's home game against Charlton on Saturday.
"To me, I don't want to spend one second talking about promotion because what I must do is focus on the next game and try to win this," he told the Star.
"Everything after this is artificial."
Although the former Besiktas boss would not like to admit it, he would have surely breathed a huge sigh of relief when they ended their five-match winless run in emphatic fashion last weekend, after demolishing Nottingham Forest 3-0.
And the result was arguably made all the sweeter by the fact that while Birmingham and Ipswich - who currently sit behind Cardiff in the chasing pack of sides hoping Wednesday slip up - still boast a game in hand over the Owls, their respective results at the weekend mean that they will still be behind Carvalhal's men even if they win their additional game, which could prove crucial as the play-off race begins to kick into top gear.
