According to The Mirror, Manchester City are pushing to try and sign Barcelona centre back Marc Bartra during this summer's transfer window.
City are seemingly out of the title race after a 0-0 draw at Norwich City on Saturday, and Manuel Pellegrini's time in charge at the Etihad Stadium is in real danger of fizzling out.
With Pep Guardiola set to arrive as City's new manager this summer, a huge overhaul of the squad is expected, with the Spaniard no doubt keen to bring in his own players ahead of next season.
The Mirror now report that Guardiola is looking towards his former club Barcelona for reinforcements, with centre back Marc Bartra allegedly a top target for City.
Bartra, 25, has come up through the ranks with Barcelona having signed from city rivals Espanyol in 2002, and worked with Guardiola during his time at the Camp Nou.
The Spanish international has long been tipped for stardom, but has made just 101 appearances sine making his debut in 2010, meaning he's largely been treated as a backup option in defence under a host of different managers.
Now, with Vincent Kompany suffering numerous injury problems, Nicolas Otamendi enduring a hot-and-cold debut season in the Premier League, Eliaquim Mangala still struggling to impress and Martin Demichelis ageing, a new centre back should be top of Guardiola's wish list, with Bartra now an alleged target.
It's claimed that City can sign Bartra for a bargain £9m, but Manchester United and Tottenham are also keen on Bartra, with Barcelona seeking a buy-back clause in the defender's contract in any deal to sell him at the end of the season.
