Report: Laurent Koscielny has travelled with Arsenal, but may not face Barcelona

Laurent Koscielny

Arsenal may leave Laurent Koscielny out against Barcelona.

Arsene Wenger is weighing up whether to play Laurent Koscielny for Arsenal against Barcelona, report The Times.

Koscielny, 30, has not featured since the loss to Manchester United, missing games with Swansea, Tottenham, Hull and Watford due to a calf strain.

The Frenchman came through a training session on Tuesday and flew out with the Arsenal squad to Barcelona.

Yet The Times report Arsene Wenger may decide not to play the Frenchman, because he wants the defender to be fit for the weekend visit to Everton.

Arsenal are 2-0 down from the first leg, and leaving Koscielny out would damage their chances of winning in the Nou Camp even further.

It would leave Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker set to start, with both having shaken off injuries sustained against Hull last week.

Barcelona's attacking trident of Luis Suarez, Neymar, and Lionel Messi are formidable opposition, and the pragmatic view from Wenger is that no matter which combination of centre-backs he puts out, Arsenal may be doomed in any case defensively, and keeping Koscielny fresh may at least leave him better equipped to take on Romelu Lukaku this weekend at Goodison Park.
