Report: Derby County want Glenn Hoddle, if Harry Redknapp turns them down

Derby County are looking to appoint an experienced director of football.

According to a report in The Sun, Derby County will make a move for Glenn Hoddle if they fail to agree terms with Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp is expected to become Derby’s new director of football in the coming days, with talks still ongoing.

However, Derby have made a contingency plan - should Redknapp reject them - with Hoddle at the top of their list.

The Rams are looking to add more experience to the club, as they look to help out Darren Wassall in his first senior managerial role.

Wassall has not made the most inspiring of starts at the iPRO Stadium, and the Rams are keen to ensure that their new manager has guidance readily available to him.

Hoddle has not held a managerial role since 2016, but he has previously been in charge of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Southampton, while he has also managed to England national side.

Derby are currently in 5th place in the Championship table, with their next match coming against local rivals Nottingham Forest.
