Ray Wilkins on his worry about Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United

Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City in Rafael Benitez's first match in charge.

Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News, on the morning of 15th March, that he is worried because Rafael Benitez has an exit clause in his contract at Newcastle United.

Benitez is able to leave Newcastle if the North East side are relegated to the Championship.

And Wilkins says that he is disappointed in Benitez for giving himself an easy way out, as he feels that the Spaniard should be committed for the long-term.

“The one thing with Rafa, is that he has 30 points - with last night and the remaining games still to play for. I’m disappointed that he has an out-clause, if I’m honest,” Wilkins said. “This is a fantastic football club, with a job that needs to be done.

“Even if he can’t keep them up, then it would be fantastic achievement to bring them back again - but that out-clause worries me, a touch.”

Benitez took charge of his first Newcastle match yesterday, put he was unable to inspire the side to victory.

The Magpies were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, but they did put in an improved performance.

Newcastle managed to cause top of the table Leicester some problems, but they could not find a route to goal.

Benitez now has nine games remaining to save Newcastle from relegation.

The Tynesiders currently are stationed down in 19th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Sunderland at the weekend.
