Could Spaniard make an appearance against his former team?

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta was pictured deep in conversation with manager Arsene Wenger in Arsenal's training session on Tuesday.

The team trained at London Colney ahead of flying out to Spain for their Champions League second leg clash with Barcelona.

Arteta, 33, has not played for the Gunners since their FA Cup game against Burnley in late January, and has been a peripheral member of their squad since.

Now heading back to the club where he began his career as a teenager, Arteta may be hoping for a recall, with the Gunners in need of experience in their midfield.

The 33-year-old was quoted by The Express this week discussing that possibility, stating that he was hopeful Arsenal can turn their deficit around.

He said: "In a game, you don’t know what’s going to happen, there could be a penalty and a sending off soon after the start, anything can happen. What’s certain is that we are going to Barcelona with the mindset of making a comeback.”

That belief is what Arsenal need more of if they are to stand a chance of qualifying, or at least avoiding embarrassment against Luis Enrique's formidable side.
