Newcastle United fans react on Twitter to Aleksandar Mitrovic's performance

Newcastle In Action

Aleksandar Mitrovic led the line for Newcastle but they failed to net against Leicester.

Newcastle United drew a blank as they lost Rafa Benitez's first game in charge away to league leaders Leicester City.

Defeat to the Foxes is no embarrassment, but what was disappointing was their lack of goal threat, failing to test Kasper Schmeichel in goal.

Summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic was selected to start up front, and he worked hard, but doubts remain about whether he is the game changing talent Newcastle need, especially in the dire situation they are in.

The loss leaves Newcastle in 19th position in the Premier League, with defeat to rivals Sunderland at the weekend unthinkable.

Mitrovic has five goals to his name this season, and proved wayward at the King Power Stadium, having four shots at goal, with only one landing on target.

He created two chances, but was dispossessed on six occasions, touching the ball 64 times, nearly twice as many as Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy (34).

His effort counts for little without production, and Benitez has a decision to make at the weekend, whether to stick with the Serbian international or start loanee Seydou Doumbia, who came off the bench for the final four minutes and did not touch the ball.

Fans were split on Mitrovic's display, here is a look at the reaction on Twitter...
