Drinkwater was handed the accolade for his performance in Leicester’s midfield, as Claudio Ranieri’s side picked up a 1-0 win over the Magpies.
However, many Leicester supporters have actually suggested that Drinkwater had his worst game of the season yesterday.
The former Manchester United’s man’s passing was called into question, and many supporters felt that he fell short of his usual standards.
Can't say it was enjoyable but it is three points! Drinkwater and Kante a bit sloppy, hence the poor performance. #LCFC— Chris Rice (@C_Rice) March 14, 2016
Wouldn't have given Drinkwater MOTM, his passing was sloppy at times. Kante for me, some of his defensive work was excellent. #LCFC— Gabriel Sutton (@_FootbalLab) March 14, 2016
I love the guy but how on earth did Drinkwater get MOTM by the way #lcfc— Dicko (@gavdicko) March 14, 2016
How drinkwater got MoM is beyond me. I thought he had his worst game of the season. Kante was immense again. Clearly best on pitch #lcfc— FoxingLucky (@luckyalex13) March 14, 2016
How on earth Drinkwater got MOTM over Kante! I thought Drinkwater had an average night! He has been much better than that #LCFC— DazzaLew1965 (@DazzaLew1965) March 14, 2016
Drinkwater was pretty bad tonight. Shocking passing and kept losing the ball. Kante MOTM for us. #lcfc— Frank Sinclair (OG) (@HipsterAllah) March 14, 2016
Drinkwater has been one of Leicester’s key players so far this season, and the criticism of his performance rather highlights just how high expectations of him are now.
There are suggestions that the 26-year-old could even force his way into England’s squad for Euro 2016.
Leicester’s win over Newcastle, which was secured thanks to an overhead kick from Shinji Okazaki, has restored their five point advantage at the top of the Premier League - with only nine games remaining.
