The Leeds United fan recently agreed to sponsor the East Stand.
Much has been made of businessman Steve Parkin’s recent meetings with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino, with some Whites fans hoping it was a sign that the lifelong supporter was about to mount a takeover of the club.
Parkin himself recently told the Telegraph that he would not be buying Leeds any time soon, but the more he was seen in Cellino’s company the more tongues were wagging and hopes were raised.
Now we know why, following the news that Parkin’s company Clipper Logistics will be the official sponsor of the East Stand at Elland Road, but does that end the theories of a future takeover or merely add to them?
Speculation is football’s lifeblood so Leeds fans will be forgiven for wondering if this is Parkin’s sole aim or if it is perhaps laying the groundwork for a takeover a few years down the line.
The businessman is likely to be true to his word and steer clear of buying the club outright in the short term. However, he clearly loves Leeds and in agreeing to this sponsorship deal it could be the first step of many for future growth in that regard.
The vast majority of Leeds fans are tired of Cellino and are desperate for a change at the top, but only time will tell if Parkin is their saviour.
