Gallery: Leicester surge towards the title after Okazaki acrobatics sink Newcastle

Leicester City beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Monday, in Rafa Benitez's first game in charge.

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win against second-bottom Newcastle United on Monday.

A home win was always the most likely outcome, based on the form book, but Rafa Benitez's arrival as Magpies boss on Friday had allowed some doubts to creep in.

The Spaniard had never before lost his first game in charge of any club, and worryingly for Leicester and their manager, his competitive debut for Inter Milan saw the Nerazzurri come from 1-0 down to beat Claudio Ranieri's Roma side 3-1.

Benitez, though, was up against a Foxes' team which had kept eight clean sheets in its last 12 league outings, and once Shinji Okazaki's acrobatics had edged the hosts in front, a comeback was always unlikely from a team which had scored seven away league goals all season.

Despite remaining a point off safety in 19th place, there were some signs of encouragement for Benitez going forward - though defeat against 17th-placed Sunderland in Sunday's derby is almost unthinkable.
