The two sides meet in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Wednesday.
Ahead of the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie between Barcelona and Arsenal, Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has claimed that Gunners playmaker Mesut Ozil has a similar level of ability to Lionel Messi, the Daily Mail reports.
The 23-year-old gets to watch Messi on a regular basis at club level, but has also played alongside Ozil on international duty with Germany, and believes that comparisons can be drawn between the pair.
"As a footballer, Ozil is a player who can do unthinkable things, just like Messi," he told the Mail.
While ter Stegen has claimed that the former Real Madrid man can be compared with the Argentinian magician, he arguably lacks the same consistency that Messi has shown throughout his career.
Although Ozil has contributed a considerably higher number of assists than the 28-year-old this season - having set up 18 league goals for Arsene Wenger's men this term while Messi has managed 10 - he is trailing by quite some distance when it comes to scoring goals.
Messi has bagged 22 La Liga strikes this season - which is 17 more than the 27-year-old - to help Luis Enrique's side take a commanding lead at the top of the table.
And unless Ozil can live up to ter Stegen's assessment of his ability when the two sides meet in the Nou Camp on Wednesday night, it seems more than likely that Messi's brace at the Emirates will see his side through to the next round of the competition.
