Gallery: Everton progress against Chelsea amidst Diego Costa antics

Roberto Martinez's side progressed into the FA Cup semi final courtesy of Romelu Lukaku's two goals.

While Diego Costa’s latest antics were the focus of the headlines, Romelu Lukaku should have been the centre of attention as Everton progressed in the FA Cup.

The Spaniard’s clash with Gareth Barry, in which he appeared to bite his opponent, and the subsequent red card, the first of his Chelsea career, was ultimately just the sideshow as Lukaku took centre stage.

The young Belgian was rejected by Chelsea, but has flourished at Goodison Park, with these two goals the latest in an impressive campaign from him.

His first was the better of the two as he shrugged off a number of challenges and left Gary Cahill turning in circles before firing calmly past Thibaut Courtois.

The second wasn’t as spectacular, but impressive nonetheless as he fired powerfully past Courtois once again to seal his sides progression in the cup.

It has been a tight affair before those late goals, with that man Costa having came closest to opening the scoring when his effort dragged across the face of goal and wide.

Two inches the other way, and he could have been the hero rather than ending up as the villain once again.

In the end though, Lukaku helped his side progress as they now eye an FA Cup triumph as a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
