Newcastle lose to Leicester: Who impressed for Rafael Benitez's men?

Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on Monday night, but did anyone impress in Rafael Benitez's first game in charge?

Rob Elliot 7 - He had no chance with the goal, but did nothing wrong in this game. Wasn't forced into any saves of note.

Daryl Janmaat 6 - You always feel that you expect more from Janmaat but it very rarely comes. This was the case here as he offered very little going forward and sent an optimistic volley high into the stands. Did his job defensively, however.

Steven Taylor 6 - Newcastle only conceded one goal, but it wasn't as if Taylor offered much in the centre of defence. He is likely to be replaced when Coloccini or Mbemba return.

Jamaal Lascelles 7 - Another solid showing from the young Englishman. He hasn't done much wrong since being introduced into the side and he coped well with Jamie Vardy in the East Midlands.

Jack Colback 6 - An improved showing after his poor outing against Bournemouth, but he is still an easy target when playing at left-back. Mahrez's lack of impact was down to the help that Colback received from Sissoko.

Vurnon Anita 6 - Got the nod ahead of Saviet, and although he didn't do a lot wrong against energetic opponents, he will do well to retain his place for the derby showdown with Sunderland.

Jonjo Shelvey 7 - Got through plenty of work but never offered much of a threat in an attacking sense. He's the player that Newcastle need in the middle of the park, but he requires help from his teammates.

Moussa Sissoko 7 - His best display in a while. He wasted a glaring opportunity during the second half, but showed more willingness to work for the side than of late.

Georginio Wijnaldum 6 - He had his moments during the opening hour, but faded badly during the final quarter of the game. Has now scored just two goals in his last 14 games.

Ayoze Perez 7 - The most threatening of Newcastle's attackers but he will rue a missed chance from eight yards early in the game. Needs to be tried in tandem with Doumbia.

Aleksandar Mitrovic 6 - As always, a willing runner and adds a physical presence, but he didn't have a shot all night. His place must be in jeopardy for the weekend.

Andros Townsend 6 - Restricted to 35 minutes on his return from injury, but showed enough to suggest he will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday. One cross from the right almost created a goal for Sissoko.

Siem De Jong 5 - Was surprisingly introduced ahead of Doumbia. It probably won't happen again after he barely touched the ball in the final 20 minutes.

Seydou Doumbia 5 - Only given the final four minutes to impress. That takes him up to 10 minutes in three games. Only those at Newcastle will know why he is being restricted to cameo appearances but he must start against Sunderland. Newcastle need goals.
