Aston Villa were beaten 2-0 in front of their own supporters yesterday.
Garde suggested to The Birmingham Mail that Villa conceded their first goal in their match against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday due to a lack of experience, but Barton was not buying the French boss’s excuse.
The Burnley midfielder suggested that Villa had plenty of knowhow on the pitch, and that they simply did not defend will enough to see a clean sheet.
“You’ve got four internationals across the backline. 115 years on the planet, of combined age. If there’s any age they’re going to be experienced it’s now,” Barton said on Match of the Day 2, which was broadcast on the 13th March on the BBC. “You look at the defending, and you can be nothing but negative about it.”
Villa ended up losing 2-0 to Tottenham, and the defeat could have been heavier, had Mauricio Pochettino’s side been more ruthless.
Spurs were guilty of missing numerous opportunities in the first half, before they took control of the tie.
Spurs scored both of their goals through Harry Kane to seal a comfortable triumph.
The Lilywhites are now just two points away from the top of the Premier League table, while Villa sit nine points adrift of safety - having won just three league games all season.
