Joey Barton predicts Leicester City v Newcastle United

Newcastle Utd - Striped Fans

Newcastle United are set to travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City later this evening.

Joey Barton has told Match of the Day 2, which was broadcast on 13th March, that he believes Leicester City will beat Newcastle United this evening.

Leicester host Newcastle at the King Power Stadium, and they are the heavy favourites to win in the contest.

The match has extra intrigue about it, though, as it will be Rafael Benitez’s first in charge of the Tynesiders.

Benitez has taken over from Steve McClaren, as the Magpies look to avoid the drop, but Barton doesn’t believe the Spanish boss will have had enough time to iron out all the faults in his new side’s game.

“If Leicester don’t beat Newcastle, they will be disappointed - regardless of who is in charge,” he said.

“You have to ask whether Rafa has had enough time to work with them, and I don’t think he has. I fancy Leicester, especially if they’re going to go on and win the league, as everyone hopes.”

Benitez took training straight after being announced as Newcastle boss on Friday, and he also made sure his players came in on Saturday, in preparation for the Leicester match.

The former Real Madrid boss will have to spark a huge improvement in the Magpies, if he is to help them get a result tonight, though.

Newcastle have not won away from home in 2016, while Leicester are unbeaten at the King Power Stadium in the league since the turn of the year.
