De Gea should have saved Payet free kick, believes Paul Scholes

David de Gea

The former Manchester United star was not as impressed as everyone else by the Frenchman's magic.

David De Gea should have said Dimitri Payet’s wonder free kick, former Red Devils midfielder Paul Scholes has told BT Sport.

The Frenchman was once again the star man for West Ham as he curled a delightful free kick past the Spaniard to give his side the lead at Old Trafford.

It was another moment of magic from Payet, in what has been an outstanding first year in the Premier League for him.

While many were impressed by his goal, Scholes was not, countering that is should have been saved by Manchester United’s keeper’ David De Gea.

“I think a keeper with the quality of David De Gea will be disappointed,” he told BT Sport.

“I expected it if it’s a Ronaldo type free-kick, where it’s moving all over the place, but it’s a whipped one. He’s not absolutely smashed it”

“ I think he’ll be disappointed, I think he should get across and save it.”

One man who won’t agree with Scholes’ comments is Slaven Bilic, who will have been delighted to see his star man producing the goods once again.

Indeed, he will be hoping that Payet has more moments like the one at Old Trafford left to offer, as his side hunt both the FA Cup and a place in the top four.

They are currently just two points behind Manchester City in 4th, and will need Payet at his best for the remainder of the season to turn their dreams into reality.
