West Ham United sent scouts to the Ligue 1 encounter at the weekend.
The Hammers may have had a vital match of their own, leaving Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the quarter-final of the FA Cup, but that did not stop Slaven Bilic’s scouts keeping a close eye on potential future signings.
So who exactly could West Ham be interested in? Here we take a look at three possible targets:
Clubs all across Europe will have been paying very close attention to what 18-year-old Rennes winger Ousmane Dembele is doing this season.
The teenager is quickly making a name for himself and he followed up his hat-trick against FC Nantes with an assist in the 2-2 draw with Lyon.
Dembele is one of the hottest prospects in French football right now but it would take a huge bid to bring him to Upton Park.
If West Ham want to make a statement in the summer transfer market they could do a lot worse than bid for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.
The 24-year-old scored Lyon’s second goal on Sunday to make it 14 for the campaign, and while that is way below his outstanding return of 31 goals in 40 matches last season he is still a real talent in front of goal.
If West Ham feel they need additional fire-power next season, Lacazette would be a wonderful addition.
Samuel Umtiti is a 22-year-old who has spent his entire professional career at Lyon, playing 161 times in the process.
Predominantly a centre-back but also able to operate as a left-back, the France under-21 international is a wonderful talent and it would be no surprise if Bilic was keen to add him to West Ham’s defensive options.
