West Ham United manage to pick up a 1-1 draw against Manchester United yesterday.
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has stated on Twitter that he believes West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet is now pushing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez in the race for the Player of the Season award.
Mahrez has been inspirational in Leicester’s title push, but Payet has also been a revelation during his first season in English football.
The attacking midfielder joined West Ham from Marseille last summer, and he has been pivotal for Slaven Bilic’s side.
Payet has helped West Ham mount a push for the top four, and he also curled in a sensational free kick against Manchester United in the FA Cup yesterday.
West Ham managed to draw 1-1 at Old Trafford, meaning the tie will now go to a replay, to decide which team goes to Wembley.
The goal was Payet’s 11th of the campaign, and he has also claimed 10 assists in just 29 appearances.
Payet’s natural flair in possession has made him a huge fans’ favourite at Upton Park, and it seems Shearer has also joined the French international’s long list of admirers.
