Fiorentina sporting director criticises Leicester over signing of Yohan Benalouane

Yohan Benalouane joined Fiorentina on loan from Leicester City in January.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has criticised Leicester City after they assured the Tuscan club that Yohan Benalouane was healthy upon his arrival in January, Gianluca di Marzio reports.

The 28-year-old defender joined Leicester from Atalanta in the summer, yet a struggle for regular first-team football prompted the player to make a swift return to Italy with Fiorentina on loan.

He signed for the Tuscan club in January, yet as the deal was rushed through no medical checks were carried out and Fiorentina took the Foxes’ word on his physical condition.

With Benalouane yet to make an appearance due to injury, sporting director Daniele Prade has made his feelings towards both Leicester and the player perfectly clear.

“He is becoming a chronic problem, let's see what decision we take with the player and with Leicester. They told us that he was healthy and we trusted them, it was the last day of the transfer season and we couldn't do a thorough medical check-up,” he stated.

The Tunisia international made only four Premier League appearances for Leicester, yet that is still more than what he has achieved with Fiorentina as he remains side-lined much to the frustrations of the club.

A 1-1 draw with bottom side Hellas Verona leaves Paolo Sousa’s men some five points adrift of the Champions League places and alarmingly low on fit defenders.

Leicester have been the standout club in the Premier League this season. But in this incident, it appears Claudio Ranieri’s men were allegedly keen simply to move Benalouane on despite his injury struggles.
