The Leeds head coach has been discussing the 21-year-old goalkeeper.
Indeed, Grimes made the bench as a potential deputy for Marco Silvestri against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
And Evans told the BBC: "Young Bailey [Peacock-Farrell] was ill but we think highly of Eric as well. There was never a question in my mind that, if anything happened to Silvestri, he'd be able to represent Leeds United."
Evans clearly has faith in Leeds' younger players and, now that United are safe, the head coach can start to test out more youngsters on matchday and in his starting XIs.
That was his promise a few games back and, after three wins in a row, the Leeds boss will be able to operate with more freedom.
It will be interesting to see how United approach the upcoming Yorkshire derbies, both in terms of tactics and personnel.
Right now, though, a chance to celebrate some of Leeds' best form since Massimo Cellino took over the club.
