Cantona is one of the best players to have ever featured in the Premier League, and achieved considerable success with Leeds United and Manchester United.
The former France international forward helped Leeds win the Football League First Division title in 1992, before going on to clinch the Premier League four times and the FA Cup twice with the Red Devils.
Collymore has explained why Payet reminds him of Cantona.
“A mate of mine is a Marseille fan, and he told me that Payet could be a monster at West Ham, so I haven’t been surprised by his form, despite having had a spell out injured,” the former England international wrote in The Mirror.
“It reminds me a bit of when Eric Cantona went to Leeds, then Manchester United. At both, he found passionate fans, who loved to watch him and the enfant terrible became a hero.”
Payet has been a massive hit at West Ham and is hugely popular among the London club’s fans.
The former Marseille attacking midfielder has scored eight goals and created 79 chances in 22 Premier League appearances for the Hammers so far this season.
The France international has a pass accuracy of 82% and a shot accuracy of 65%, and has won two headers, 55 dribbles and 13 tackles.
