Aston Villa are currently nine points adrift of safety after enduring a disastrous campaign so far.
Garde argues that the Claret and Blues have made improvements under his stewardship, even though the Premier League table does not necessarily reflect this.
The French boss believes Villa’s run of five games without defeat in January proves the quality in the squad, and should give his players confidence in their abilities.
“It is difficult to improve in the season but we have made some improvements - but just not necessarily scoring more goals,” Garde said.
“A few weeks ago before the four defeats we had a momentum that we had built and were in a better mood and had confidence.
“Everybody in this club has to realise that he did it and now we have to it again. In the last four games we have failed to do this. We have to be better.”
Villa’s form has taken another turn for the worse over recent weeks, with the side regularly collapsing.
The Villans have lost their last four matches and both Liverpool and Manchester City have torn them apart.
Villa are now nine points away from safety and they appear destined to be playing Championship football next season.
Garde’s side’s next match comes against title chasing Tottenham Hotspur later today, and only a huge improvement will give them any chance of pulling off an upset.
