The Spaniard became Newcastle manager earlier this week.
It has been a tough week for Newcastle United.
The club have finally decided to move on Steve McClaren and he was replaced by former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
One of his first decisions as Newcastle boss was to bring the players in for training yesterday.
The Spaniard mainly observed the session but new coaching staff were very much hard at work as Benitez took a good look at his new players.
He stood and watched proceedings with club captain Fabricio Coloccini. The Argentine, currently struggling with a groin injury, seemed happy to be of service.
But he didn't remain out of the action. He was also seen talking to Jonjo Shelvey, a player he previously signed for Liverpool. It will be interesting to see how he uses the former Swansea player.
There was also a little-known face involved in the training session.
Ben Smith, an 18-year-old goalkeeper, was present in the goalkeeper training yesterday.
Newcastle have a host of talented young keepers and Smith has a real struggle on his hands if he is to make it at the club.
But being involved with first-team training will give him a confidence boost.
