Former Celtic striker John Hartson has predicted in The Scottish Sun that it will take Rangers two to three years to challenge for the Scottish Premiership tile.
Rangers are in the Scottish Championship at the moment, but they should be able to gain automatic promotion to the Scottish top flight at the end of the season.
While Rangers fans will want the team to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title rightaway, Hartson does not see them doing so for at least two more years.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s going to take two or three YEARS before Rangers challenge for the title again,” the former Celtic striker wrote in The Scottish Sun. “They’re should be absolutely no debate about that.”
Rangers are running away with the Scottish Championship title at the moment, and it is clear that they have the strongest squad in the division.
One suspects that the Gers will sign players in the summer transfer window in order to strengthen the squad.
Whether Rangers can challenge for the Scottish Premiership title next season or not will depend on the quality of players Mark Warburton’s side recruit in the summer.
