Gardner, who joined Forest on loan from Premier League outfit Aston Villa in the January transfer window, started the Championship game at the City Ground and played for 66 minutes.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who is in his second loan spell at the Reds, did not make a huge impact, as the home team lost 3-0.
During his time on the pitch, the Englishman took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 90%, created one chance, attempted two dribbles, won 50% of his tackles and 100% of his headers, and made one interception.
Over the course of the 90 minutes, hosts Forest had 50% of the possession, took 14 shots of which five were on target, and earned eight corners.
Forest fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the performance of Gardner against Wednesday.
Below are some of the best comments:
Don't worry #nffc , Gardner will soon be tweeting 'U Reds'. Then we can all calm down and be thankful for what we've got. Which, btw, is FA!— Newark Anagram (@LarwoodExpress) March 12, 2016
So has Gary Gardner become the new #nffc timeline scapegoat— Steve (eddy) Edwards (@bogussteven) March 12, 2016
Well that was abysmal Forest. What has happened to Gardner? Shadow of the player from last season. #nffc— Ross Gibbons (@VitalRG) March 12, 2016
Is it only me who thinks the cm's this season have been poor apart from Vaughan. Gardner and tesche might aswell just leave the club! #nffc— James Hall (@ukjim91) March 12, 2016
Has to be said, Gary Gardner isn't the same player this time around. At this rate, I wouldn't bother signing him #NFFC— Dan (@Dan_LowerBC) March 12, 2016
