Sturridge promises repeat Liverpool display against Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp's side were 2-0 winners in the Europa League on Thursday.

Liverpool will put in a repeat performance against Manchester United when the two sides meet at Old Trafford this week, Daniel Sturridge has told the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds were 2-0 winners at Anfield on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League clash, in a highly impressive performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

They know that the game is far from over though, with them still needing to put in a performance at Old Trafford to progress to the next round.

And Sturridge has promised that they will put in the same type of display they did at Anfield to ensure it is they who are in the draw for the next round.

“We’ll approach the second leg exactly the same as we did the first leg. That’s the only way we know,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“The Liverpool way is to win games so we will go into the second leg and be positive.

“The confidence is there within the camp and we are just looking forward to every game. We are mentally prepared for every job we have ahead of us.”

Given the way they performed in the game on Thursday, it seems the Reds are determined to go on and win the Europa League this season.

It is certainly within their capabilities, and given that the winners are handed a Champions League place, that hands them a big incentive to win it.

It would be wiser to focus on that than a late push in the league as well, with them currently sitting seven points behind Manchester City at present.
