Southampton won the battle of the European hopefuls on Saturday afternoon by beating Stoke City 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium.
And Ronald Koeman was under no illusions as to how important beating the Potters was.
Indeed, Southampton have moved up to seventh after their one-goal victory, one point above Stoke, who sit in ninth. Liverpool are sandwiched in between the two teams but have two games in hand. That, however, won't take away from how big a win this was for Koeman.
Graziano Pelle chipped in with two important goals just as Southampton fans had begun to doubt his value at St Mary's.
Stoke fans, meanwhile, will have been disappointed to go 2-0 down before half-time.
Not Koeman, though, who thanked the Southampton fans and emphasised just how important this win was for the South Coast club's European aspirations. Can the Saints make into Europe and last next season? Or is there still life left in Stoke's European chase?
