Rob Green explains how close he came to joining West Ham and Crystal Palace

The QPR shot stopper was previously linked with both West Ham and Palace.

Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper says he was 'pretty close' to leaving the R's for West Ham United and Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail.

The 36-year-old is currently out of the QPR team but was the subject of interest from the Hammers and the Eagles during previous windows.

And Green told the Mail when asked about moves to both West Ham and Crystal Palace: "The newspaper reports weren't far off the mark. I was pretty close to leaving."

Currently, Green is in a state of limbo at QPR. If he plays 30 games with the club, he will automatically be given a new deal - but the R's want to sell the veteran, meaning he is being kept on the bench.

However, Green's interview with the Mail works on the assumption the 36-year-old is miles better than Alex Smithies or any other goalkeeper in the QPR squad.

The truth is different. As good as Green has been and may still be, QPR fans had expressed frustration with his form throughout the season.

At West Ham, Green certainly wouldn't be no.1, although he may have had an impact at Crystal Palace, especially considering their poor Premier League form in 2016.
