Rafael Benitez has been confirmed as Newcastle United's new manager.

Newcastle United confirmed on their official website on Friday that Rafael Benitez has been appointed as the club's new manager, following the departure of Steve McClaren.

The Magpies lost 3-1 at home to Bournemouth last weekend, a result which ultimately cost manager McClaren his job after less than a year in the St. James' Park dugout.

McClaren left Tyneside with the club sitting second bottom of the Premier League table, but just one point from safety - and now, Rafael Benitez has been brought in to try and save the club from relegation.

The 55-year-old, who left Real Madrid in January, is back in Premier League management, having had previous spells with Liverpool and Chelsea, the former of which he won the Champions League with back in 2005.

Spaniard Benitez now has ten games to try and keep Newcastle in the Premier League, and he starts his three-year contract with a tough away trip to league leaders Leicester City on Monday night.

On Friday, Benitez was presented in front of the media, before meeting the Newcastle squad and taking his first training session in charge of the club.

Below are a selection of images from Benitez's presentation and subsequent training session, with Newcastle's players meeting their new boss ahead of Monday's trip to Leicester...
