Paul Scholes comments on Liverpool’s top four chances

Liverpool have an outside shot of finishing in the top four.

Paul Scholes hasn’t ruled Liverpool out of the top four as he tells the Daily Mail that the Reds are starting to look the part under boss Jurgen Klopp and on current form could be challengers.

Since losing the League Cup final on penalties, Liverpool have bounced back brilliantly with back-to-back Premier League wins and a 2-0 Europa League triumph over Manchester United.

Performances have been excellent, and with those above them slipping up of late it has left the door open for one of the chasing pack to put together a strong run and grab a place in next season’s Champions League.

Speaking with Jamie Carragher following Liverpool’s win over United, Scholes believes the Reds have a chance.

“Before the Liverpool versus Manchester City game, which I worked at, I was thinking, 'Klopp might only keep two or three of these'. But what is he building now? They need to go on from here. They can go on from here. They could even finish in the top four in the Premier League this year if it carries on,” Scholes said.

Following City’s latest 0-0 draw at Norwich City, the gap between Liverpool and the top four now stands at seven points while the Merseyside club have played one game less on their rivals.

With 30 points still there for the taking for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the top four isn’t an impossible task especially considering the club’s last six games of the season are all extremely winnable.

At one stage it was looking like the club’s season would peter out and be looked back on as one of the most average in their recent history, yet current form suggests they could still enjoy plenty of success come May.
