Michael Carrick has been quoted by the West Ham United official website as saying that he has been impressed by the performances of Dimitri Payet this campaign.
The French attacker has proved to be one of players of the season, despite missing the final two months of 2015 through injury.
Payet has scored 10 times in 28 outings in all competitions, as well as contributing numerous assists, to help West Ham into fifth position in the Premier League table.
He will come up against Manchester United in the FA Cup sixth round on Sunday afternoon and Carrick, who began his career at the Hammers, admits that his side will have to play well to nullify the threat offered by Payet.
Carrick said: "They’ve got a good mix and Payet has had a fantastic season and now he is back from injury, he’s flying again.
“They may not have expected to be where they are now, but as a squad they look strong and they’ve got good quality in depth and full credit to them.
“Payet has been their main man this season, I hadn’t seen much of him before coming to West Ham, but he has been a huge hit in the Premier League, with his performances, goals, assists and everything else that he brings to their side. He has almost been the catalyst for their season."
West Ham head into the match having suffered just one defeat in their last 10 outings, but it is a different story for United, who are still reeling from their abject showing against North-West rivals Liverpool in the Europa League.
Louis van Gaal's men are fighting for fourth spot in the league, but they will need to progress in either the FA Cup or Europe to satisfy the club's supporters.
