The current Hull City manager has been linked with a move in the summer.
There have been reports that Remi Garde could be set to depart, with a return to France having been mooted.
And among those to replace him could be Bruce, has not exactly been received warmly, he could be an ideal managerial appointment for them.
Bruce’s experience in the Championship would be a very attractive proposition at this stage for Villa.
He has already been promoted from it three times in his career, twice with Birmingham City and then again with Hull City.
That shows he knows how to manage in a tough division, and could be key to Villa avoiding the difficult season many are predicting for them.
He’s good at rebuilding
It seems inevitable that the Villains will be undergoing a major rebuilding job in the summer given their current plight.
The vast majority of the current squad are expected to leave and Bruce is an ideal man to oversee replacing them.
This season he saw numerous first team players depart the Tigers, with the likes of James Chester, Robbie Brady, Nikica Jelavic and several others all leaving.
That could have been a major blow, but instead Bruce worked hard to replace them and did just that, with them sitting fourth in the table, just three points behind Middlesbrough in second.
Knowledge in the transfer market
Bruce could also prove an astute appointment given his knowledge of the transfer market.
The club will not only need players of Championship standard, but also those experienced in the division as well. Bruce is arguably an expert in that department.
He also has good relationships with other managers, having secured the likes of Nick Powell, Chuba Akpom and Isaac Hayden on loan from Arsenal and Manchester United.
Both traits could prove key to helping rebuild Villa and turn them into contenders in the Championship, as he has done at Hull.
