The former Chelsea star was a fan of the Spaniard's spell at Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle United have finally sacked Steve McClaren as manager today after a week of turmoil at the club.
The new man in charge is former Liverpool, Napoli and Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez.
The Spaniard is an interesting appointment, considering his lack of experience in relegation situations.
However one man believes he is perfect for the job.
He believes he will be able to bring the same sort of performances he managed when interim manager at Chelsea to Newcastle for the rest of the season:
"I saw him as an interim manager at Chelsea. I thought he did a really fine job. He came in and his first game, which I was at, was Man City at home.
"They drew 0-0 but they had just lost to Juventus 3-0 in the Champions League. He made them really tough to beat.
"He made an impact straight away at that football club.
"That's what Newcastle are hoping. A guy to come in and make the impact, make them a hard team to beat.
"That's their best chance of staying up. That's what Sam (Allardyce) is trying to do at Sunderland and it is working at Sunderland."
It is easy to forget just how well drilled Benitez had his defences at Liverpool, Napoli and during his temporary spell at Chelsea.
During his time at Stamford Bridge he helped the club win the Europa League and turned around their poor form in the league - even if he never did win around the fans at Stamford Bridge.
If he can keep Newcastle in the Premier League he should have no trouble with the latter at St James' Park.
