Speaking to the official West Ham website, Slaven Bilic has spoken highly about Sam Byram and Michail Antonio, calling the latter a perfect example to lower division players with dreams of playing in the Premier League.
Bilic said: “Sam played only five days after joining against Manchester City and he did extremely well in that game. Michail is the perfect example for all the players playing in lower divisions. The important thing is to surround them with quality players like we have with Antonio. He is benefitting from that and so are we.”
Antonio was signed from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window, and after taking a length of time to acclimatise to the club, he has become an established key player for the Hammers.
He is scoring consistently, and his attitude and work rate and second to none in the entire Premier League.
Byram did not link up with West Ham until the January transfer window, signing from Leeds United, and just days after moving to the Boleyn Ground he was making his debut.
He played 77 minutes against Manchester City, and has since feature three times for the club, proving he is already cut out for the top flight.
These two players have proven that making the step up from the Championship to the Premier League is not too hard, and they are set to become key players for the Hammers for the foreseeable future.
Bilic is clearly a big fan of the duo, and it would not be a surprise to see the head coach raid the lower divisions of English football this summer for even more impressive signings.
