Report: Nottingham Forest interested in signing Ivo Ilicevic on free transfer from Hamburg

The Croatian international will be a free agent in the summer.

Reports in Germany this week are reporting that Nottingham Forest could be eyeing up a potentially ambitious move for a Bundesliga star.

It is being reported by Bild, as relayed by, that Forest have beguninvestigating the possibility of signing Ivo Ilicevic from Hamburg in the summer.

Ilicevic is a 29-year-old Croatian international who has been with Hamburg for the past five years.

He is out of contract in the summer and the playmaker would be making the move on a free transfer. His career at the Imtech Arena has been blighted by injuries, so he would be a risky signing from Forest. That said he has incredible natural talent and would thrive in the Championship.

Dougie Freedman has done well in the European market this season as the club adapted to their transfer embargo and it would appear that Ilicevic caught his eye for the new season.

The report does however claim that he would prefer to stay in Germany, where he was born, and will wait till the summer to make a decision over his future - although a stay at Hamburg is not on the agenda.

Whether or not Forest get Ilicevic or not remains to be seen but Forest fans will hope this us the calibre of target Freedman is set to pursue in the summer.
