Michael Ball explains why he wouldn't want Benitez at Everton on Twitter

The former Everton man feels the Newcastle United man wouldn't work out with the Toffees due to his ties with Liverpool.

Michael Ball feels Rafael Benitez couldn't have worked out at Everton due to his ties with former club Liverpool.

But he can see why some Everton fans would want his winning mentality...

In the event, the Spaniard has replaced the forlorn Steve McClaren at Newcastle United, who he will look to keep up but could be able to leave if they go down.

Everton supporters have recently been putting plenty of pressure on Roberto Martinez. The Toffees boss has looked so lacklustre and, with the resources available at Goodison Park, is majorly underachieving.

Martinez doesn't appear to believe in defending... in any capacity... but that's something Benitez definitely prioritises - and did during his time at Liverpool.

That could be a major boost for Newcastle, of course, with the Magpies needing to avoid the cavalier attitude to games Everton have possessed (especially while throwing leads away).

A look at Liverpool's improvement under Jurgen Klopp may also encourage Everton fans to follow what both the Reds and Newcastle have done and make a change at the top.
