Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Farhad Moshiri has confirmed that he has promised transfer funds to Roberto Martinez ahead of the summer window.
Moshiri said: “There is much to be done and things for me to learn, but I can confirm that I have committed to providing additional funds for transfers and retaining our key players to ensure that we have a strong core to build on for the future.”
Moshiri has promised that signing new players is important this summer, but even more important is the fact that he wants to keep ahold of Everton’s key players.
That also requires financial backing, and the new 49.9% shareholder has made it clear that he has handed Martinez the means to do all he wants in the transfer market.
Everton won’t be forced to sell the likes of Romelu Lukaku, John Stones and Ross Barkley simply to balance the books, and this means Martinez has the chance to build a truly top class playing squad.
The selling club mentality is what has held the Toffees back over the past few years, but this is no longer a restriction with Moshiri bankrolling the Merseyside outfit.
Bill Kenwright has run Everton as a steady ship, but his ownership has prevented the club ever being considered as a truly top English team in the Premier League era.
With Moshiri now in a position of power, the Toffees can look forward to a bright future of on pitch success.
