Don Hutchison has advice for Everton

Everton Goodison 2

Everton will take on Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend.

Don Hutchison has told ESPN FC that Everton should take the FA Cup seriously this season.

The Toffees will take on Premier League rivals Chelsea at Goodison Park in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Former Everton midfielder Hutchison believes that Roberto Martinez’s side should take the prestigious cup competition seriously in order to play in the Europa League next season.

“Yes, absolutely, and what shouldn’t it?” said Hutchison on ESPN FC when pointed out that the FA Cup means a lot to Everton manager Martinez.

“I think there’s a Europa League spot as well for the winners, he got that with Wigan. Unfortunately for him, obviously he took them down.

"For Everton to try and get into Europe next season, FA Cup’s going to be their best route.”

Everton are not doing so well in the Premier League at the moment and are unlikely to finish in the top six.

The Toffees have a good squad, and for their season to be deemed successful, they need to win the FA Cup, or at least reach the final.

Like Everton, Chelsea have nothing to play for between now and the end of the season except the FA Cup.

This means that on Saturday evening, Guus Hiddink’s side will do all they can to win the tie and progress to the semi-finals of the prestigious cup competition.
