Liverpool want to sign Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze this summer.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Steve Nicol has shared his thoughts on Liverpool signing Mario Gotze this summer, claiming that it is a possibility with Jurgen Klopp in charge of the Reds.

Nicol said: “He [Gotze] certainly needs to go and play, and where better than going with his old boss at Liverpool. Why not go somewhere where you’ll be loved? The fact that Klopp’s the manager means it’s a possibility.”

The Mirror claim that Gotze is a target for Liverpool this summer, with the German attacker looking likely to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season.

Carlo Ancelotti could look to utilise him next season, but his experience under Pep Guardiola could mean Gotze looks to leave anyway.

He will be heading into the final year of his contract at the end of this season, and Bayern will look to sell him if Gotze has no plans to extend his deal - so they don’t lose him for free the following summer.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Liverpool, due to Klopp being at the club, and Nicol certainly sounds like he would want that deal to go through.

He believes it is a possibility with Klopp in charge at Anfield, and the former defender has urged Gotze to move to a club where he will be loved - and where he will be the star player.
