Kieran Tierney has been called up to the Scotland squad.
Kieran Tierney has built on his great season to win his first ever senior call-up for Scotland.
The 18-year-old left-back has played 23 games this season, recently establishing himself as Celtic’s first-choice ahead of the experienced Emilio Izaguirre.
Considering his lack of experience at the start of the season, Tierney has done extremely well to break into Ronny Deila’s squad with such ease, and few would doubt the talent that the youngster possesses.
He is one of the most highly rated young players in Scottish football, and there have been calls for him to make the step up to the senior international stage since he broke into the Celtic first-team.
Capped at Under-18 and -19 level, Tierney will be hoping to make his debut when the Scots take on Denmark on March 29.
Following the announcement, Scottish football fans took to Twitter to react to the news, with varying views on Tierney’s call-up.
Celtic fans are understandably pleased, and Tierney does deserve the chance to impress at senior level, but other fans are critical of Gordon Strachan calling up the youngster ahead of Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie.
Shinnie has never been capped at senior level by Scotland, but he has excelled in the Premiership this season, and at 24-years-old, he is the perfect age to bring into the international fold.

Would give wee Tierney a run out against the Czech Republic tbh, wee man deserves it— Alan Gordon (@AlanGordon97CFC) March 10, 2016
Kieran Tierney playing outstanding week in week out in the top league against much better players. Why should Wallace get in ahead of him?— Andrew Meade (@AndrewMeade_) March 10, 2016
@JamesVonDoom Shinnie is currently better in every way. Tierney is maybe a bit quicker. Tierney could end up better, but he's not now.— Robert Borthwick (@RFBorthwick) March 10, 2016
Glad to hear Kieran Tierney's been called up to the Scotland squad, he's been one of the few impressive players for Celtic at the moment— Kieran Polland (@Kieran_Polland) March 10, 2016
If anyone deserves a Scotland call up its Kieran tierney! Bravo !— Callum Smith (@Caldo96) March 10, 2016
So pleased for Kieran Tierney getting called up to the Scotland squad more than well deserved !!— Clare Groves (@ClareTheScot) March 10, 2016
Tierney is a good wee player, but he's nowhere near Shinnie's standard. Oh and also, GORDON GREER.— Robert Borthwick (@RFBorthwick) March 10, 2016
Well deserved call up for Kieran tierney, although I'm not too fussed about our players playing for Scotland, or any country— Kevin (@kevindempsey81) March 10, 2016
Delighted tierney got in the squad been one of celtics most consistent players all season— JordanMcbain (@JordanMcBain69) March 10, 2016
@HomeBhoys Feel it's a bit soon for young Tierney. Under 21s would've been better. Great for the lad though.— Pete Robertson (@peterobcelt) March 10, 2016
Kieran Tierney, John McGinn and Tony Watt no wonder Scotland don't get to major tournaments— Robbie (@Robbie_72_) March 10, 2016
