Aston Villa are likely to hire a new manager next season.
When asked if Villa should hire Warnock next season, Wilkins said: “There aren’t many managers out there at Championship level who are better at getting teams promoted. So he would fit the bill, no two ways about it.”
Villa are set to spend next season in the Championship, and it is likely that Remi Garde will be replaced as head coach.
The Frenchman has not impressed in the Premier League, and the board could look to bring in a boss with a proven track record in the Championship.
Promotion at the earliest opportunity is the goal which Villa need to achieve, and hiring a boss who has won promotion from the Championship seems imperative.
Neil Warnock could be that man, with two Championship promotions to his name, and he has build a reputation as an expert in the second tier.
His teams may not play the most attractive football, but he is a proven to bring results, with his recent arrival at Rotherham coinciding with three successive wins - two against promotion hopefuls - as they fight off relegation.
He may not be the universal choice amongst Villa fans, but Warnock would almost guarantee that the Midlands club would be fighting for promotion next season.
